About Sahar & Jorge

WELL! We thought it might be nice to let you know a bit more about us and how we met and fell in love. This page is meant to give you all some inside scoop on SAHAR & JORGE!

We first met in September of 1994. Jorge and I had both started attending the Engineering Program at the University of Windsor. It was our first Algebra class and the professor announced that all assignments were to be done and submitted in groups of four. Me (Sahar) and two other girls were in a group, we were missing the fourth person. Out of desperation, at the end of the class, I started looking around to see if there was anyone left by himself or herself trying to join a group. Right behind me, in the next row of seats, there was this guy in a green windbreaker jacket also looking around! (this was Jorge by the way)

I asked him, "Are you in a group yet?"
He said, "No. Not yet."
I said, "Well, two other girls and I are in a group and we are looking for the fourth person, do you want to join our group?"
He said, "Yeah. Why not."

So I gave him the piece of paper that had the name of the other group members on it and said, "OK then, write your name here."

Jorge started signing his name on the paper, thinking he was only joining a group for doing Algebra assignments, little he knew that he was signing away the rest of his life!!!

This was the start of our life long friendship.

The algebra assignments were the basis for Jorge and I getting to know each other. Since we attended all the same classes, we started spending more and more time together. Usually with a few other friends that we had. By the end of first year of university we were good friends. Once second year of university started, Jorge branched off into Industrial Engineering and I joined the Electrical Engineering Program. This time around we did not share a lot of classes. Still, in between classes we spent a lot of time together through our small circle of friends.

By the end of the second year of school in Windsor, I had a change of heart and decided to go back to Hamilton. This is where my family was living. I attended Mohawk College planning to get into the Building and Constructions Sciences Program. So I left Windsor and started attending school in Hamilton in September 1996.

Even though Jorge and I were more than 300 kilometers apart we kept in touch via email and occasional phone calls. It was in these long emails that we started expressing how much we missed each other and how nice it was to have been able to see each other in school. It was then that we realized we meant more than friends to one another. Eventually on April 4, 1997 we officially started going out.

This was the start of a 3-year tough long-distance relationship! We drove countless distances to see each other. Luckily, our families were very supportive and caring. Eventually, a few months prior to my graduation, I was able to find a job in Windsor! On January 2000 I moved back to Windsor to be closer to Jorge and to start my brand new job.

It was so nice to be able to see each other more often than a couple of times a month. It was nice not having to wait for 6 p.m., at which time the phone rates would drop and we would talk for hours. We knew that this was going to put our relationship to the test. We were moving from a long-distance relationship to a more "real" relationship. It was time to find out if we were really perfect for each other like we thought. If anything, our love and understanding for each other grew even stronger. On Christmas Eve of 2000, Jorge and I got engaged during a small intimate dinner with both of our families present to give us their blessings.

Since April 4th was the day that we started going out, we wanted to have the wedding date as close to this day as possible. This is why we chose Saturday, April 6th, 2002 for our wedding. By then we will have celebrated our 5th anniversary. We hope to have many more wonderful anniversaries in years to come.

By the way, Jorge was born to Luzia and Albano as their first child, on October 26, 1974. He was born in Porto, and raised in a beautiful coastal town in the North of Portugal called "Vila Do Conde". On October 29, 1976, Sergio was born as Jorge's younger brother. A few years later on September 27, 1983, Antonio was born as the baby brother to Jorge and Sergio.

In another part of this world (Tehran, Iran), I (Sahar) was born to my parents Roya and Sadegh on October 8, 1975, when Jorge was almost one year old and trying to learn to walk! I too am my parents' first born. On February 22, 1981 Sahab was born as my first brother. On September 10, 1987, Soheil was born as the baby brother to Sahab and I.
